It was a treat to spend a couple of hours interviewing Marian Schwalm Furman, Board Chair of Villa Catalina Homeowners' Assn. Villa Catalina is located at the southwest corner of 6th Street & Country Club. Marian and her husband Austin moved to Villa Catalina in 1991 from central Pennsylvania. They had wintered in Tucson before that. She has a great appreciation for all that the Sam Hughes neighborhood offers. "We can avoid the worst of the City's traffic congestion because of the services available in the neighborhood," she mentioned. When asked whether she was retired, she replied, "I am a retired Pennsylvania attorney. I practiced law for some 30 years. I was one of two women in the law school. I ran for the State Legislature and was very active in the early 70's," she continued. Marian stays busy serving as board chair. She spends many hours each day involved with her position on the board.

PINES FLOAT OVER THE UA CAMPUS MALL
The trees once graced a front yard or yards in the 700 block of N. Martin Ave. before the University expanded east to Campbell Ave. in the 1960's. Civano Nursery conducted the daylong move. The trees weighed about 90,000 lbs. each in 13-foot square containers, 5½ feet deep.
Thanks to involvement by your neighborhood association, ICA, and the UA Campus Arboretum, the landmark pines were only moved about a dozen yards to preserve their historic and landscape properties and to form an entry plaza to the UA ICA offices. Updated project information can be found at: http://www.fdc.Arizona.edu.
If all goes as planned, the trees will continue to provide shade for band practice and other activities. Construction is scheduled to be completed by August 2008.
